In Michigan, the Henry Ford Hospital did a recent study that showed acupuncture’s benefits in relation to breast cancer. Besides being able to treat hot flashes much better than medications, acupuncture is also able to improve sex drive and foster a sense of well-being in women who need to undergo intensive breast cancer therapy.

This study, which was published in the Journal of Oncology, highlights the ability of acupuncture over drug therapy in the improvement of the quality of life for breast cancer patients without the needless side effects that come with the use of these drugs. Doctors at the Henry Ford Hospital’s Oncology Department have verified this to be true when they explained to the public the specifics of this study.

This study involved the participation of two groups. One group was treated with Venlafaxine drug therapy and the other group treated with acupuncture for the relief of their symptoms. Both groups were monitored for over 12 weeks. Both treatments initially produced an outcome wherein the patients experienced a 50% improvement in night sweats and hot flashes. At the end of the study, the group treated with Venlafaxine showed a marked and immediate rise in their symptoms while the group treated with acupuncture did not.

The study’s objective was to see if alternative treatments to Venlafaxine can provide better relief of the side effects of breast cancer therapy that would eventually encourage patients to continue availing of these treatments.

About 13% of women at some point in their lives will develop breast cancer as gleaned on statistics provided by the National Cancer Institute. Medical researchers are keen to find alternative treatments that can help relieve the discomforts and miseries that come with breast cancer treatments since it has been shown that drugs only serve to worsen the patient’s already precarious condition.

There are other studies besides the aforementioned one that are worthy of citation that scientifically proves acupuncture’s power to improve the life and health of a breast cancer patient. Because of its amazing ability to treat a number of health conditions, it is therefore not a surprise to know that acupuncture has been practiced for over 5,000 years.

There have been hundreds of clinical trials done to prove that this treatment is effective and very safe to use for the treatment of conditions ranging from migraines to infertility.

One of the reasons why acupuncture works in treating conditions is because it stimulates the body to generate a response that causes the body to heal itself. A licensed and qualified acupuncturist in Bellingham can help generate a healing response in a person that no surgery, drug or any type of medical intervention could ever do.

Acupuncture does not actually heal a person. It gives the body the means to heal itself. This modality is still not universally acknowledged by Western medicine that still sticks to an outmoded theory that the physician heals the patient and that, incredulously believes that a person has no part at all in his/her own healing.

Acupuncturists from thousands of years ago have already known what a lot western physicians still haven’t figured out today: the one who heals is actually the patient himself/herself. The physician is just the one who initiates the person’s own ability to self-heal.
