Itching can come along with symptoms that can signify a very serious or life-threatening condition. When these conditions symptoms arise in you, it is very urgent that you be evaluated as soon as possible in an emergency room. These symptoms can involve:
- Wheezing
- Sudden swelling of the tongue, lips or face
- Tachypnea (rapid breathing)
- Shortness of breath
- Tachycardia
- Dizziness
- Brief loss of consciousness or confusion
Your skin may become itchy all over your body or in localized areas of your body. Itchiness may sometimes show no corresponding sign on the skin.
Itchiness can be mild, moderate or severe. Sometimes scratching can tend to make the itch more intense like in cockroach bites.
There are certain conditions to the nature of your eating that might require doctor intervention. You may consult with your doctor or skin specialist if your itching:
- Affects your entire body
- Comes with other problems like skin redness, fever, frequent urination, changes in how you pass stool, loss of weight or extreme fatigue
- Has no known cause or explanation
- Is painful, uncomfortable and so intense that it prevents you from performing your regular activities or keeps you from sleeping
